Here is the situation,

I am in the market for a new set of irons. I went down to Golfsmith and the worker recommended some clubs. I hit them in the store and narrowed it down to the Nike VR Pro Cavity Backs or the Taylormade Burner 2.0s. I like the look of the Nikes better but the Burners aren't bad either. I hit both about the same feel wise but they didn't have technology to show my distance. Does anyone have experience with either or both of these irons? Any help? Thanks!!

Forget about the distance factor. Distance is not the be-all-end-all factor. If you hit both about the same, pick the ones that 1. fit your pocketbook 2. fit your eye.

Just to clarify, are you talking about these (http://www.tgw.com/customer/category/product.jsp/SUBCATEGORY_ID/17452/refScid/1092/sattr0/Gender/sattrVal0/mens), or these (http://www.tgw.com/customer/category/product.jsp/SUBCATEGORY_ID/16206/refScid/1092/sattr0/Gender/sattrVal0/mens)? I'll assume the former, and in either case I would recommend the Nikes. The Vr Pro Cavities, though cast, have some really cool technology behind them. First off, they're not too huge, which I always find nice, and they have a neat weighting technology in the cavity called OptiMass, which is tungsten-infused polymer, that they implement to achieve the proper COG. I've never been a huge fan of the Burner 2.0s, especially since they aren't a whole lot different from the original Burners and because they haven't put a whole lot of new innovation into them.

Just so everyone knows and thank you Jamo, i am talking about the first link that jamo posted NOT the second.

Also, both are the best price so that won't make a difference in my decision. And the reason i put in that i didn't know how far i hit them was because i don't actually know if i was hitting them well or the club made it feel that way. Still deciding...

I just bought 7 thru AW Nike Pro Cavity Irons. Before that I was playing Adams A7OS.

With the Adams one can pick the ball off the turf without taking much of a divot. The Nike's need a more upright swing plane and hitting down to take a nice divot. It took me a couple of rounds to get the hang of the Nike's, and now I am getting a nice high ball flight, with good directional control. I am hitting the 8 through AW pretty good, but the #7 was difficult, so I replaced it with Ping I15 #7. The other Ping club is the sand wedge, just a marvelous club in sand and heavy grass around greens.

The Nike Pro Cavity have a nice simple design without looking gaudy and clunky. When hit on the sweet zone, they feel butter soft. They can be bent for desired Lie angle, a must for every aspiring golfer. For the #6 & #5 irons I am using S3 Max hybrid irons and love those. After that it is #9 wood, #7 wood & #4 wood all Callaway, and Cobra L4VDriver. I don't mind the hodge podge, since every club works to my liking. For putters I alternate between Odyssey 2-ball 35" and a belly putter 41" by Powerbilt, both work great for me.

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
