Did i purchase the right clubs?

I just bought a set of Callaway Diablo Edge irons...I havent used them yet but I got them because I read they go far and straight with ease and because I got a great deal on them...

But I keep reading about how these clubs are for "beginners"...Im fairly new to golf but I wouldnt put myself into the beginner category because Ive shot back to back 87's at two different courses using Walter Hagen T3 irons I got brand new in an entire set for 170 bucks at Dicks..

What I really dont understand is the whole "workability" thing...when i golf, my main purpose is #1. Hit the fairway, #2. Align myself with the flagstick and hit it as straight for it as possible, and #3. Putt as few times as possible....now call me crazy but if these clubs are supposed to be some of the farthest and straightest hitting clubs out there, why are they supposed to be for beginners...isnt that what everyone is trying to do for the most part? As you get better are you supposed to get clubs that are harder to play with to make the game more challenging? Someone help me out with this...

IMO the whole "players iron" vs "game improvement iron" is heavily over used especially on internet forms. Honestly I've played with sub 5 handicaps using anything from staff Di9s to callaway big bertha irons. It's all about if you feel comfortable swinging the club and you like the results the clubs give you. I wouldn't even worry about "working" the ball as most golfers can't work the ball besides if you can hit it straight every time my money would be on you. Play and enjoy them because it's what's on the card not what's in your bag. good luck

Do you like the clubs? Do they perform well for you, doing what you want your clubs to do? Then they're the right clubs. There are tour players with game improvement irons. There are people who believe that higher handicaps should be using blades, at least at the range. Choose your clubs based on what you want, not on who they're marketed towards.

It takes most of us mid-HDCP players about a year to really get used to a new set of irons. So, it may take a few rounds before you really get them zeroed in.

As far as working the ball goes, your can draw or fade any set of irons if you know how a swing works. Other aspects of working - hitting a super high shot or keeping it low against the wind, are somewhat more difficult with game-improvement than player's irons.

It all come down to tradeoffs: If we can hit the ball fairly straight with an occasional fade or draw, we'll do OK. All the fancier working takes lots of practice time, which most of us don't have. If you blow a fancier shot you don't have down, here comes a double bogie.

Another confusion factor: The club manufacturers have done a super job in recent years in coming up with playable iron sets. I play Callaway X20 Tours, but there a half-dozen other irons models I could probably play with - as long as they had the right shaft.

Diablo Edge sounds fine to me! Whack 'em and have a good time.
