Hi - New to the Forum - but hoping to get some adivce/opinions on a question I have.  I am a mid-80's player, and I have broken 80 a handful of times with 76 being my lowest score.

I was hitting my driver about 245 regularly, but I had a lot of spin and a very high launch.  On the advice of a guy at Golf Town, I got my driver reshafted.  I was hitting a 55g regular flex with a low kick point (the shaft that came with the driver).  They put in an Adilla NV 65 stiff shaft.  Long story short, it instantly reduced my spin and I started driving this thing up the middle and I was carrying about 260 yards.  This has got me thinking that I shoudl look into reshafting my 3 wood and hybrids.  I am even considering reshafting my 5 and 6 irons as I pull them left and think I may need a stiffer flex.

So, my question - should I look into buying new equipment, or just stick to reshafting?  I currently hit Adams Idea Tech A4 Irons and hybrids (3&4) with regular flex.  I like the clubs, and would prefer to keep the heads if it made sense.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.  Also, if you can suggests any good shafts for a three wood, hybrid, or irons - that would be great.  I am looking for a lower ball flight and less spin.

Thanks

Go back to GT and test some shafts. The launch monitor can narrow the choices for you.

If you really like what you have, re-shafting is the way to go.

Definitely consider re-shafting over new clubs. Shafts can make a world of difference. Have you considered checking the lie angle of the irons you are pulling to see if that could be the cause. Obviously your swing speed is probably the biggest factor since you are using regular flex shaft in your irons as well, but the lie angle could definitely be a cause of the lefts.....especially if it's consistent.

    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
