So I just bought a set of taylor-made burner plus irons off the shelf. My last set of irons were forged and the shop I got them from had the lie adjusted for me because I am short. Well dicks said that cast irons can not be adjusted. I have 5 rounds on the new irons but have to choke up a few inches so I can get I flat lie. I hit them fine this way but was wondering if I should just play them as is or have the shaft cut down or find someone who can adjust the lie on a cast iron. What to do please. By the way I shoot in the mid 90's

You should be able to have those adjusted (unless they are zinc). Find a local club builder, he should be able to help you out.

This is from a Golfsmith bending unit manual:

Iron heads which CANNOT be Bent for Loft/Lie Change

1. Zinc heads (Irons identified as metallic colored and non-mag- netic.)

2. Graphite Ironheads (Visually identifiable)

3. Titanium Heads.

Iron heads which CAN be Bent for Loft/Lie Changes

1. Forged steel ironheads (all, regardless of whether carbon steel or stainless steel))

2. 18-8 (304) grade stainless steel (medium)

3. 431 stainless steel iron and putter heads (firm to hard)

4. 17-4 stainless steel iron heads (hard to very hard)

5. 15-5 stainless (hard to very hard)

6. Beryllium Copper iron heads (hard)

7. Aluminum Bronze iron heads (firm to hard)

8. Manganese Bronze iron heads (medium to firm)

9. All chrome plated iron heads, whether forged or cast

You may need to have both done.  I'm short (5'4") and my clubs were shortened by 1/2" and flattened by 2*.

That said, you don't want your club to be completely flat at address; you want it to be flat at impact.  A wrist-to-floor measurement can generally tell you if you need the shafts shortened.  You should also hit balls off of a lie board to determine what needs to be done lie-wise.

I am 5 4" and I have the same exact clubs.

After my fitting at Golf Galaxy, using their Ping fitting cart, I was measured as needing a shaft that played 1/2" shorter.  Since the Burner Plus irons are 1/4" longer than Ping irons, they ended up shortening the shaft 3/4" and flattened the lie 2*.  The actually said I probably needed 3 or 4* flat but 2* was their limit for fear of breaking the club.

Even at 3/4" shorter, I still grip down a decent amount on the 4, 5, and 6 irons to feel comfortable with the longer irons.  The 7 and 8 irons maybe grip down about a 1/4" and the 9, PW and AW I play at full length.
