If you haven't gathered from my multiple other posts today I want to tell you that I shot my lowest ever round today 77 and I didn't use my driver. The difference for me today was keeping my tee shots in play and hitting straight long iron shots. I hit 12 greens in regulation (too bad I didn't make more putts).

The reason I was able to keep my long shots straight today was because of my self correcting miracle blister that taught me how to keep my wrist solid and flat in my backswing. I've been so infuriated by my lack of ability to shoot in the 70s  that i've been pounding balls at the range non stop for the past week and developed a nasty nasty blister on my left thumb. I am almost 100% sure that I got the blister because I didn't have solid wrists at the top of my back swing with my long irons and I would bend them so much that I was pinching my left thumb between the club and my right palm way too much. (put your hands in to your golf grip and bend your wrists a ton and you will see what I mean)

Today the blister was bad, and when I got to that point where I was bending my wrists too much, It would hurt like hell, hence the self correcting miracle blister. It forced me to keep my wrists solid at the top of my back swing so that it wouldn't hurt.

Thought I would share my awesome story.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Congrats on your lowest score. Hope you really did find your miracle cure but in my experience the little adjustment I make one day may not be repeatable in my next rounds. Just today I shot 10 over on my first 11 hole and then on the 12th I adjusted to an "old man" tee swing and shot 2 over on the last 7 holes. Hopefully I can keep repeating the "old man" tee shot in subsequent rounds.

    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
    • Yes, but season 2 being all of six episodes is a bit of a let-down, even if the season itself wasn't.
