I see the same very poor condition of bunkers here in the Midwest and I know a lot of it has to do with the type of sand used.  Most of the sand is river bottom sand, which is pretty course and has a tendency to pack down and become very hard.

I can see dhanson point about bunkers being a rather expensive upkeep, so my thought is don't have them.  I know this will sound like blasphamy, but hear me out.  Lately there has been kind of a push to make golf more accessable to the masses, to try and get more people involved in the game.  I believe that course setup/conditions/price are a major part of what keeps people away from the game.  So if a course is not going to maintain the bunkers, remove them, reduce the cost of a round of golf and maybe you would get more people to golf.

All this beeing said, I don't mind having bunkers on a course, but IMHO, if you are going to have them you need to keep them playable.  Seems to me it's bad business practice to have something that is a drain on resources that gives no benefit.

    • Maybe not different but more concise and with data to better explain the issue. I think it aids both the instructor and student as it can be interpreted as technical as each person wants.
    • Day 320: worked on putting with the yardstick drill for a while. Checked set up in the mirror as well, and it was pretty solid.
    • Truer words have never been spoken, as I am seeing tonight 😅. I hope my ignorance did not come across as arrogant… Definitely true, however there was also a pro present, albeit not trained in GEARS specifically as would be necessary. I am certainly learning a lot (as I hoped I would). I am not here to challenge the accuracy or significance of any data, as I did find it interesting how it objectively showed my swing. What I am wondering is if an expert teacher trained in GEARS was shown a swing with and without GEARS, would the pro come to a different conclusion using GEARS versus "traditional methods," genuinely curious.
