before i bought my r9 460 in wonderful condition used for $125. I kept reading reviews that the stock aldila re-ax shaft was "whippy". What does that even mean? and what kind of feeling does a "whippy" shaft have? I have been seriously considering replacing my aldila re-ax shaft because its a 60g reg flex. I'm now starting to think im figuring out how to pick up some clubhead speed without trying too hard.(wrist angles and club release, body rotation, etc.)

Whippy?

Also. I'm not a great driver hitter but have had rounds of greatness. Consistency could be the shaft. but i have a feeling i could work into becoming a solid hitter with a new driver. Does the 460 have a high spin rate? cause i might considering something with alot less spin like an EXOTICS or a TM superdeep. maybe even a g15? maybe even something a bit older than 09'-10'...

Less spin?

Most "whippy" references mean the club is not stiff enough for them...

Exactly... i.e feeling like a flexible whip & not solid at all.  Which is the opposite of "boardy", i.e. feeling like swinging a wooden 2x4.  Shaft feel is all about personal preference.  If the shaft doesn't feel overly flexible to you and gives you good results, then to you with your swing speed it's not too whippy...don't worry about what other reviewers say, as everyone's swing is different.

And to completely overly generalize, a shaft that is indeed too "whippy" for your swing speed will probably tend to give erratic results & lots of dispersion on your misses, perhaps with more ballooning & hooks.  Too boardy a shaft for your swing speed may give lower ball flight, loss of distance, and tendency for more slices.

I definitely wouldn't jump to a conclusion that a new driver will fix things.  As someone who plays an adjustable driver with interchangeable shafts (Nickent Evolver 4Dx), i'd definitely say that putting in a different shaft can make the exact same clubhead both feel and perform COMPLETELY differently.  Sounds to me you might really benefit from a fitting session just to get some ballpark ideas of what works (and feels) best with your swing.

good luck!
