If you have a smartphone you might want to look into the USGA Rules App.  I just got it for $2.99.  It has the complete USGA Rules AND the Decisions.  The free R&A; app has the R&A; Rules (which I think are identical) but not the Decisions.

I got it for my Droid phone, but I;m sure it must be available for the iPhone as well.

Since I use a GPS app on my phone I always have it handy on the course, so now I have the Rules and Decision available on the course at all times.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I have an iPhone and have simply used the USGA webpage and that works fairly well, except you cannot go directly to a decision but need to scroll down all of them per Rule (i.s. you can go to a specific Rule and then scroll down all the decs under that Rule).

Where did you find this Rules app?

Edit: Ok, found it but it is only fo USGA jurastiction area (what a load of ....) so I cannot download it here in Finland.

Ah, that sucks.  Sorry about that.

Sorry to bump this old thread... But it came up in the other thread.  Wanted to know... Does the iPhone USGA Rules Book app have a search function?  Like say I wanted to search for 'loose impediment'.  Does it bring up the different rules that contains this phrase?

Yes. It'll list relevant decisions too.

Just curious, under the rules, is it permissible to use the rules app on my smartphone considering it has other apps (weather, etc.) on it that would make it a banned device?  I assume that it would, and in a way that is kind of funny to me.

Answered in the other thread, but yes.

Yes, permissible, and yes, funny/illogical that you can use a smartphone for many things (phone, text, rules app) but not another allowed thing (distance measuring device), if you have a banned app on it.

Yup, that pretty well sums up the colossal illogic of the USGA position.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
