Hi all.

I have a fairly good backswing. I stay well centered, don't take the club way inside, don't leave it outside either, and have a good position at the top. The thing I feel is hindering my full swing the most right now is my inability to stop standing up out of the shot right before impact. It causes me to have off-center hits as well as a very steep angle of attack.

Are their any drills or training aids I can use to train my body to stay down through impact?

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

Put a chair or something (a table, even) along your butt. "Early extension" (which can also be "lack of regaining flexion") causes the head to pull back and the hips (and butt) to move towards the golf ball. Pretend the board or table or chair or whatever is a wall, and "keep your ass on the wall."

It can (and should) slide forward on the wall, but it should stay on the wall too.

You can make fake swings (no club) keeping your head on an actual wall, too.

I've been working on the same issue, which has caused me to hit some of my shots thin.

The following video helps one make sure their shoulder plane is correct:

Like Eric mentioned, find something to keep your butt against during the swing.

I'd also look at your address position and how your club shaft moves on your back swing. If you're unbalanced from the start and swing back too flat, you may be setting yourself up for that standing up compensation during the downswing. The following video may explain.

You can also try some exercises in order to strengthen your gluteal muscles.
