Hi,

I inherited a bag of golf clubs but  I don´t know that much about them. My hope is that you can help me.

I have tried to search for them on the internet but I can´t really fint anything on MacGregor Heel Toe Tournament. Does anyone know how old they are (my guess, between 1975-1985) and if they are any good.

I'm sorry, I don't really like to bump but this is one last try to find any information. I tried contacting the company but that didn't work that well.

I can only guess, but I think they look older than 1975.  I wouldn't play with them unless I was doing the "vintage golf day" thing, but I like modern stuff.  They're probably perfectly good at smacking the ball down the fairway.

MacGregor is now owned by GolfSmith who has also been a MacGregor dealer for years so you could contact them.  Edwin Watts Golf has been around forever so someone there might have an idea.

Another idea would be to just go to a local golf course and start asking old guys.

Just by the looks of them, they look like a starter set.  Back in the 70's, MacGregor's Tourney irons were their top of the line, and they were blades.  I wouldn't put much value on yours.  Just my opinion.  Sorry.

Based on the font, the elliptical cutout, and the prominent dull grey in the cavity, I'd guess mid to late 1980s. They seem like a pretty standard head design without being too mucked up with game improvement chicanery. Other than the fact they probably feel hard as a rock being investment cast (others will argue you can't tell the difference, but perhaps they need to hit more stainless steel and pot metal blades to form a more rounded opinion), but eventually it comes down to what grips and shafts are connected to the other end.

If they have decent grips and the shafts work for you, why not play a round (or more) with them? They certainly don't stand out as being relics based on design.

Thanks for the answers.

You're quite right about them being hard, especially a little bit of center it feels like hitting into a rock. Not a pleasant feeling through the spine, one could  think I would learn not to hit like that... The shaft is Multistep R. Grips are overall ok, a bit dry on two or three clubs. The grips are also asymmetrical, it's like a ridge on the back side.

The thing I find frustrating is that it seems to be impossible to find any information on the Tornament-line, might it be because it was a one time thing? One thing that i didn't think of before is that there are a driver and a metalwood in the set, also marked Tournament. My understanding is that thees wasn't available until the mid 80's? The design is otherwise like persimon, down to fake screws around the sweet spot for no apparent reason.
