Alright, im between a 10-15 handicap (usually dependent upon my putting, and beer consumption) and im in the market for a new set to hopefully drop me into the seventies.

ive swung the following in the simulator.

mizuno jpx 800/800 pros

tm cb and burner 2.0

titleist ap1/2

The first time i swung the 800 pros, i was doin work, and thought i had made up my mind. No more than two weeks later it felt as though every shot was a mis hit with them and i was putting a 6 iron a whopping 155 yards, which is sissy for me. I dont want to jump into a forged iron if im not ready, but given my current skill i think im ready to make the jump.

I hit the burner 2.0 the same day and was nutting the six iron between 190-200. significant jump. granted its a simulator and who knows how accurate the distance is.

the titleist ap's felt great, not a lot of feedback at all with the club and they carried very well.

Either way i generally tend to strike the ball well and strong with a natural right to left on it. I am not to seasoned as to control a draw    or fade. But i can usually put the ball where i want it with my alignment.

As to say im a pretty decent golfer, looking for any tips or insight on any 2011 iron sets, and whether i should make the jump to a forged cavity back or stick with a name brand game improving iron. Thanks

The three club sets I have my eye on for when or if I break 80 are:  JPX 800 Pros,  Cleveland CG7 Tours, or the Wilson Ci9's.

Try some combo irons like Nike or Bridgestone. You will getting easy to hit long irons and accurate short irons

If you read the threads and reviews on this site for the JPX Pros, you'll find many of us really like them. Between the lines of your original post, I hear that distance matters and that you'd like more. I do not find more distance with my JPX Pros compared to my old Fusions. I shortened the yardages for all my irons this summer to great effect. For me, the key to Mizuno irons is hitting the sweet spot. They are shorter and flatter than most other clubs and they are not bent strong (maybe the PW is strong compared to some sets.) I don't think they are going for the longest club in the pro shop. But they sure feel good when I hit them well. Maybe it is the weight with the XP shafts, but I hit them better than others clubs that I have tried and owned.

But if distance is important, look elsewhere. Jumping on these clubs to add distance negates the reasons I bought them. I used to sometimes stretch my old PW to 140 yards. Now, I'm happy as a clam hitting a 115 yard PW, looking up and seeing the ball going straight. A 140 yard butter-feeling 8-iron is more than fine with me.

And it is not entirely coincidence that my index dropped fro 9.3 to 6.1 in two months with the Mizunos.

went with the burner 2.0. gave me the most consistent swing speed and ball carry and just felt right in my hands. had them fitted, get 'em next week, pumped.
