Club Speed: 98 mph

Attack angle: 5.1

Club path: 0.7

Ball speed: 145 mph

Smash factor: 1.45

Spin rate: 2942

Carry: 235 yards

Lenght: 255 yards

Are these good stats with the driver? I use a Ping i15 with a loft of 9.5 and a "stiffer regular" shaft.

I'm 17 years old and this is my fifth summer season of golf.

Driver: Ping i15, 3 Wood: Ping i15, Irons: Mizuno MP-53, Wedges: Mizuno MP T-11, Cleveland CG15, Putter: Ping iN Anser V2

I am no expert but I think the spin is too high.  It will rob you of distance.  With a 98mph swing speed you should get more distance.

Agree with the above poster. When I was getting fitted for a driver, we were looking to get my spin to 2000 or less. Once you get to that point, your "Smash Factor" should go past 1.50 mark (just an estimation). Then you have a good fit for your shaft.

Well, the tour players should have no less than 1.48 smash factor so i believe that a smash factor of 1.50 is a lot to ask for from an amateur. And isn't the spin determined by how you hit the ball? If you hit more down on the ball with the driver or on the way up the spin rate differentiates?

EDIT: I should also add that this is an average of like, 6 swings, so the smash factor was up to 1.49 on one swing but I'm assuming you are talking about the averages as well and not on the best hit?

Yes, these are very good stats.  Spin rate is fine... you probably need the extra spin to help with the carry because your swing speed is 98.  Having too little spin is as bad as having too much.... Perfect smash factor is 1.5 and yours is 1.45...those 5 hundreths of a point arent costing you much at all....and the guy who thinks you should be hitting the ball further for 98 mph probably thinks he hits it 340.  Id be interested to know what your launch angle is though

The paper I got with all the stats doesn't say what the launch angle is I'm afraid.

No the guy who thinks he should have more distance hits it the same distance as the OP with a slower swing speed verified by GPS over several months.  My understanding is that 2900 spin is a little high.  I guess me starting my statement with I am no expert was lost on you.

If all of his drives were with the listed numbers, he would be doing well. That distance math  is just an approximation.  I am guessing slight tweaks and tuning (maybe different ball, driver, slight  loft tweaks, reducing spin a bit) will get him another 10-15 yards of carry.  Try to find a manufactor's demo day where they will let you hit a bunch of driver variations to see if any of the clubs help you out.  To get much more distance (lets say 25 yards) will require more swing speed. How to get that is going to depend on what he has been doing. Things like lifting, power drills, overspeed training, dynamic stretching and the like become very important once you start hitting the ball consistently well. Or you could focus on the other parts of the game where you are leaking shots.

      The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO

      Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
