The swing change(s) I've been working on for a while are kinda starting to come around. Kinda.

I've been trying to stay more centered over the ball. I used to sway off the ball quite a bit. I'm also trying to get a bit more power in my swing and to hit the ball a tad lower - mostly doing both by getting the shaft leaning forward at impact a bit more.

I find myself currently hitting the ball pretty solidly, and my drivers and long clubs are going along pretty well, but my short irons are blade city and my misses with any club are huge cuts.

I've gotta drop down into the slot a bit more, and start my downswing with my legs and hips a bit more than I am currently doing. In the race between my arms and lower body, my arms are winning pretty frequently.

Anyone been where I'm at? What drills or swing thoughts did you use? One that started to work late in today's quick nine holes was getting my right shoulder driving down and under instead of around.

My upper and lower body are also fighting. One day, I woke up and my swing was gone. It got so bad the other day that I started firing my hips alot earlier than usual, then made my hands speed up to catch the hips. In the process my swing returned and my hands became faster.

From the top of the backswing on a full shot the hips should always start with a slight lateral movement, before the arms are then pulled into the slot by the earlier movement of the lower half. However, hardly anyone ive ever seen struggles with this and its the rotation of the hips that causes problems.

Personally i always go back to thinking about trying to TURN my hips through the ball and concentrate on the rotational, not lateral movement (clearing the left hip as often described i guess, but without sliding forward toward the target too much). This MAY tie in with your "sway" as you describe it and effectively being in-front of the ball at impact and hence leaving your hands behind = open clubface and or bladed short irons.

I think if i where you,in keeping with trying to reduce your weight transfer and "sway" i would be thinking of trying to keeps those hips working rotationaly/horizontally and still keeping those hands slightly ahead for the lower flight your searching for.To sum it up:

"Turn and collect",with a stronger hands forward position at impact rather than a "slide and scoop" effort.Thats why my instructor always told me as sliding my hips from the top is always a fault that creeps back for me.....

Not really. 5'10" or 11".

I've used the thoughts you've suggested a few times. I struggle trying to get the hands ahead of the club while keeping my head centered, though, coming down. I'm going to swing 60% today on the range to try to ingrain it, though.
