Been playing for about 3 years now, finally starting to get a bit more serious about my game and putting in a bit of practice time.

Started out the summer playing great.  Striking the ball pure and hitting it almost exactly where I wanted to.

The past several weeks my swing has gone to hell in a hand basket.  I'm not hitting several shots fat per round and have been hitting a lot of shot off the heel and even off the hosel.  It's frustrating as hell because I haven't tried to make any changes to the swing but something has changed and now I just can't seem to hit the ball where I want it to go or with the same distance I was getting earlier this summer.

I thought I might actually break my handicap down into the single digits by the end of the summer after firmly establishing it at an 11, but now it's been slowly starting to climb.  Fortunately I've sured up my short game over the summer otherwise I'm sure my handicap would be much higher than it currently is.

If anyone can take a look at this and give me some pointers it'd be much appreciated, because I've gotta do something to get this lined out.

Nice swing.  Try hitting some shots with a glove or tee under you left arm.  Would like to see your left arm work with your pivot.

I definitely appreciate the breakdown mvmac.  I'll try to utilize those pointers and try to keep my left arm more attached during the swing.

Thanks again!

Hard to tell cause of the camera angle, but it looks to me your backswing is to the inside, and then you're flipping a bit, maybe as subconscious compensation?  Nice smooth flow generally.

I have been told in the past that my backswing may be slightly overexaggerated to the inside.  For some reason it just feels like the most natural swing path for me, but I do intend to try and work a bit on my takeaway over the winter to see if I can improve that.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say "flipping."

edit for a quick questions:

  • I have noticed that I've picked up a bad habit of death gripping the club when I start my swing to strike the ball which in turn is causing me to come thru slightly open.  It's most pronounced with my Driver and Woods and I've been slicing the heck out of the ball for the past few weeks.  Can anyone recommend any drills to work on keeping my grip lighter as I'm swinging because it seems to a be subconcious thing and as of yet I haven't been able to find a way to break it.

Was able to get out to the range today.  Hit the ball much better today, I think a lot of it had to do with me not overthinking my swing.  My only two swing thoughts today were "keep a light grip" and "throw the handle at the ball."

I was hitting my irons MUCH better, and the lighter grip allowed me to hit my driver straight and even with a hint of a draw on a few swings.  Now I just hope the weather cooperates so I can hit the links this weekend.

I still think I might have a bit too much going on with my lower body during my swing and that could definitely be playing a factor in some of the mis-hits.

Thanks N255.

Just realized I screwed up when compiling those videos.  The second take on each swing was supposed to be in slow motion but for some reason it didn't save that way.

Oops.
