You know the sound of a properly struck golf shot? The one where the ball is squeezed off the face. The beautiful whack of a compressed ball. Does the sound of a compressed ball, struck at the same speed, sound differently with different clubs? For instance, if all other things are equal except the club, does it sound differently when struck with a blade vs. a SGI

It's different--same with drivers, they don't all sound the same when struck properly. I still remember that Nike Sumo square thing that was popular for a year or two, that sounded like an aluminum baseball bat even when it was hit perfectly.

Harmonics is something thats been just researched recently in golf. Titliest has done huge research on this, and claimed majority of feel is doing by hearing more than by the hands and contact. I think its because your hearing has the fastest reflex times. Thats why offense has the advantage in football for knowing the count. Offense gets to hear the count, while defense has to see the ball, hearing has a fast track to the brain for reception. So, i think hearing will pick up on good or bad hits more often than the hands. But I like the new Titliest three wood because it has a very soft feel, the sounds is very nice on it, i really enjoy hitting that club flush. It goes a mile to, just a  huge club. So i think majority of that feeling i am getting is from the sound, rather than the ball to clubface interaction.

But clubs definetly are suppose to sound different, now irons of the same brand and type should sound very similar, but drivers and woods should sound different.

I'm still using my Nike Sumo and I can attest that the sound is atrocious.  Hopefully I'll be able to get something new this winter.

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
