To start out, I would like to apologize for the quality of the videos I'm forced to use here.  I'll work on getting better videos, and with varied clubs.

I've fought a sway for many years now, so I've been really focusing on swinging around the right leg, keeping it flexed throughout the backswing.  I have a tendency to swing up, and not drive down and through the ball.  I also tend to start my downswing with my upper body.  I've been working hard the last few weeks with leading the downswing by clearing my hips first and letting my arms naturally trail the lower body.

a DTL, and a front angle vid are posted below, anything at all is more than welcomed, critiques, drills, general idea, absolutely anything.  I'm going to train very hard in this off season to get ready for next year.  Thanks for your time!

I've recently been hitting the ball fat, and always have issues with comfort in the backswing.  any more analysis would be much appreciated!

Pick up a tour striker training club, watch the quick video it comes with and then figure out how to get it up in the air.  SAGolfLuvr's video is fine too, particularly the basketball part.  You swing very hard from the top.  This occurs most often because people are trying to get a lot of distance.  I'm sure you can hit the ball pretty far occasionally because you are fairly flexible, and have decent speed and athleticism.  I've found this can create some frustrating expectations and tend to make the problem of overswinging worse.

On the back swing, so that you don't start with your body, I would practice cocking your wrists back before any other part of your body moves.  Also, a trick that i like using on the backswing is to imagine that my club is being pulled from me. maybe you already knew these tips, but just thought I'd share a little.

The pro striker looks like a great training aid, and i'll look into picking it up.  I'm also working on not overswinging.  I have plenty of distance, I've always struggled with going after it too hard.  I used the basketball drill, but I have trouble feeling the correct lower body movement in the downswing.  I'm thinking that not going so hard at the ball from the top will give me better feel for my lower body through the ball.

You can go hard through the ball, in fact that's preferable.  Just don't go hard from the top.  Going hard too fast gets the club moving to quickly then your body and arms can't catch up.  Check out the biggest secret slide your hips thread on this site.  It will address some of your lower body issues.  Also, +1 on picking up a tour striker.

    • Great to hear!  Im trying (slowly) to get back out there and this community has been very helpful - FORE
    • Lessons.   I asked Erik this once and he said a good player could shoot a good score with less-than-adequate clubs.
    • So I have a son-in-law that I really like, and he plays.  Not great, averages 100-110 on a normal course.  For his birthday I got him a series of 5 lessons (he's never had lessons before) from a well-regarded local pro.  He hasn't started them yet.  For Christmas I am getting him a fitting and clubs from a local clubmaker with credentials and equipment out the wazoo:   And following the fitting I will be having the clubmaker make him 13 clubs (he already has a putter he really likes and putting is one of the better parts of his game).  I'll let the clubmaker and him work out how many 'woods', how many and which hybrids, how many and which irons, and how many and which wedges.  Other than paying I don't want to inject myself into the process. So my question for the board is which should happen first, the fitting/building of the clubs or the lessons?  I can see arguments on both sides and I just thought this would be a good place from which to get some input.  Thoughts?
    • Day 2: 12/11/2024 Today I spent another half hour or so in front of the mirror working on my PPJ. I still feel like an orangutan performing brain surgery with a hack saw. It's a big departure from the way I had been timing my moves in the past.  Here's a quick video of my practicing.
