Hello, I am a 16 year old 6 handicap golfer and I am getting fitted for new clubs tomorrow. I have been doing a lot of research on irons, however there are a lot of great ones out there. I am getting better everyday and am slowly approaching scratch level. Knowing this, I need some advice on what irons I should buy. I have a very high ball flight and while I hit my driver far (around 300), I don't hit my current graphite irons far (7-iron about 155). I would like to get more distance and greater feel with my irons while lowering my ball flight. I have been looking at Titleist and Mizuno irons for the most part, but am open to suggestions. Please give me some advice since I would like to work my way down to scratch and possible play golf in college. Thanks.

I've heard a lot of great things about the Mizuno fitting system and would recommend the new MP-59 irons, they look really sweet.  I would also recommend KBS tour shafts, seems like you might want to lower your spin rate

Thanks so much for the reply and the welcome! I just got fitted today and now am considering Henry-Griffitts custom clubs due to my tall posture and high launch angle. I am also trying out the Mizuno's tomorrow as well as some other leading brands.

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
