A face on video would help, but from what I can see, he needs to work on staying centered and over the ball.  It seems like the sways to the back and then forward and that can make it very hard to hit the ball with any kind of consistency.  He should try turning his shoulders in the back swing so they feel like they are pointing down at the ball.  Also, it would be good to start with his weight centered and then feel it move forward throughout the swing (don't shift it to the back).

The two most common problems in golf. I highly suggest reading the most popular Instructional threads. They tackle these problems in depth since pretty much everyone at one point or another has dealt/is currently dealing with them.

Also, he should make himself his own account. And you should read this thread.

Anyway, he swings the exact same way as David Wedzik discusses in this video as a classic "wrong way" to swing. This video is perfect for your friend:

Also, read about how to push your hips forward.

This video here is the basic starting point for all beginning players: Weight forward, handle forward.

And the bending of his arms throughout isn't helping things either. I'll just start with these four ideas (inclination to the ground, low point control, hips forward, straight arms) for now as to not overwhelm you. But I'm sure this is a lot of info to take in. That said, these things are essentially considered basics.

Anyway, have fun! I know that will help.

Also, just to add something about your buddy's setup position. He might want to take a gander at this recent thread about the set-up position because his neck looks a bit too tilted upwards. Also, it seems to me that he's putting a bit too much stress on the lower part of his thoracic spine. Try to make the "rounded part" of the back be a little higher up, as in more in the upper thoracic region.

Flaring out his feet 10-15 degrees at address (going duck footed as it is sometimes called) helps with turning the hips and staying more balanced.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
