I just dropped by my local Edwin Watts to have the lofts/lies of my irons/wedges checked.  I noticed this past weekend that I really seem to be hitting with the heel causing the club to turn over.  Anyways, I had the guy check the loft/lie first and he said they were within standard spec.  Then he asked me if I'd ever been actually fit for them.  I purchased these used and never had so I said why not.

He takes my 6 iron, puts tape on it, and we find out that I need 2 degrees flat.  He bends the 6 iron and hands it back and viola, dead center.  That was the end of the fitting.  I'll be picking up the rest of my clubs tomorrow.

My questions is, is it normal to get fit only with a 6 iron?  He didn't have me hit any of the other clubs.  Is this because they were all standard so if one needs to be 2 degrees flat then all of them need the same?

Thanks.

Using one club gives you a good starting point, but it is not always accurate from the wedges to your long irons. In the past, I have done this process with every club.    Since he was using a mid iron as his guide, when you pick them up ask to check the entire set.   At the very least hit the 9, 6, 3 and any wedges that were touched just to be sure.

The good thing is you noticed your uneven divots and your ball path to ask about the lie. Your lie change will make a big difference in your game. So many golfers buy irons off the rack and never have them fitted. I agree spot check your 3 or 4 and 9 too, but I am guessing those will be adjusted to match your 6. The 6 iron is the typical fitting club.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
