Last summer, I finally replaced my old Cleveland HiBore driver with a Titleist 910D2.  I had used Golf Prides New Decade (Standard) on my HiBore in years past.  I don't slice, if anything, I push the ball right (In addition to my overcompensating for this by snap hooking it left).  My first month out with the Titleist, I had never drove the ball so straight and so far in my life.  Seriously, I was thinking of ditching the GF and sleeping with the driver.  I had kept the stock Titleist grip on for the first month and then decided to switch the grips on all my clubs.  I put the Golf Pride New Decade back on and it was like my driver just hopped town.  I was all over the place.  This after a month of hitting the best drives of my life with the stock Titleist grip.  It has got into my head. I don't feel like anything in my swing has changed.  But after switching the stock grips for the New Decade, I couldn't hit a ball near the fairway.  The GPS unit was laughing at me.  Tumbleweeds blew across the tee box when it was my turn to hit.  You get my drift.

All this being said, is it coincidence my driver bailed on me after the switch?  Am I in the wrong grip?  Lamkin's site says I should be in a standard grip with +1 wrap.  I am looking at Lamkin's REL 3GEN grips, because they look close to what the stock Titleist grips were (plus all the color selections are appealing as hell) and at this point, I am willing to switch it up to get my driver back.

I measured my hand size as 7.5" with a 3.5" long finger.  I need some expert advise.

Thanks!

Hmmm....

The Titleist is a Tour Velvet .580 which is the equivalent of a standard .600 grip with one extra wrap.  Going to the .600 grip without the extra wrap gets you .020 smaller, which is a small difference.  For someone OCD like myself, it would bother me, but not enough to wreck the performance of a club.

Thanks for the input.

I am just trying to pinpoint the problem.  A little baby fade is my natural ball flight and play the club at the standard A1 setting, and the grip is the only change I had made since my month of joy.  Once I switched the grip, I was slicing off the map and that has never been a problem in the past.

Like I said, it is probably just in my head, but maybe if I revert back to the way it was, it will help me mentally.  So, if I am following you correctly, I need to go to a .580 with a extra wrap?

Here is a post and a grip calculator...

http://thesandtrap.com/t/40350/grip-calculator

A .600 grip on a .600 shaft will give you a standard grip size.  Years ago the OEMs started using .580 grips on their player's clubs to give a slightly oversize feel (@1/64)  and that became the unofficial standard.  See a .580 has to stretch over the .600 butt making it larger than the .600 grip.  To achieve the same feel or size you need @ 1 layer of build-up along with the one piece of grip tape.  Professional build up tape is advertised at a .0075 thickness so it gets it real close.

So you need to go with .580 with no extra build-up or .600 with one extra wrap.

For the record, I have similar measurements and according to the Lamskin website fall into the one extra wrap category.  Well, as it turns out I have been playing with .580 grips for the last 20 years so it confirms their assessment.   I hope this helps!
