Hey all. I've been fitted for clubs three times. First time thru ping, 3* upright for g5s. 2nd time 1* upright golfsmith. Today I bought some mp 53 s (golfsmith)and it was back to 3* upright. I'm a little nervous because I didn't hit the g5s well. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

One thing to remember: Golfdom has no "regulation" lie angle for, say, the 6 irons of the world. Each manufacturer has different lies for its 6 irons, although those of a family will often have the same loft and lie. For example, the 6 iron for the Titleist AP1 and AP2 are both 62.5° , and a steel shaft length of 37.5 inches for its standard model.

For competing irons:

Ping G20 = 61.5° | 37.25"

Callaway RazrX = 62° | 37.25"

So the Ping standard is a degree flatter than the AP standard, and a half inch shorter. (Flatter + shorter increases the difference slightly.

Some irons I've tested I was recommended to go about 1.5 degrees flat; on others, standard lie was on target for me.

Also, golf shops don't mind if you come back for a "second check" on lie angle before you buy irons. But for most golfers who have been playing for a year or more, lie angle is pretty stable - unless you make some major set-up adjustment in your swing.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Ok thanks that's a good point. My last two fittings have both been mizuno. That being said I was missing to the right alot which would indicate the toe grabbing turf and opening up from being too flat. Guess I'll see how I hit them ....could always bend them.
