I've been a golfer for a lot of years but really only decided last year to get serious again. I try to get out 2 to 3 times per week whenever possible. Last year was kind of rough as I started the year with a new set of Cleveland Gold irons that just didn't work for me. Not a fan of the uniflex shaft now. Traded those in on an R11 driver and went back to my Cleveland TA2's.. Then last summer, bought a new set of Cleveland TA7 tour irons which I liked a lot. Replaced those about a month ago with a set of new Taylor Made Tour Preferred CB forged irons that I REALLY like. Won't get a chance to use them much until spring though.

I've also been custom fitting/making clubs for a long time. More as a hobby than a profession but I sure learned a lot about what makes a golf club tick. I mentioned above that I bought an R11 driver which I have since shelved and went back to my Snake Eyes driver that I built for myself. I'm much more consistent wtih it and just as long. Current set make up is:

Snake Eyes 10.5 driver

Taylor Made 15 degree 3 wood

Cleveland 18/21 degree hybrids

Taylor Made Tour Preferred CB forged irons

Cleveland CG 16 5054 degree wedges

Taylor Made EST 79 putter

Taylor Made cart bag.

Welcome to the site!  Very cool to hear you're into club building.  I'm slowly making my garage into a workstation.  Have a nice grip, air compressor set-up.  Just go a PING swing weight scale for Christmas.  Next would be a lie and loft machine.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
