I was wondering about golfers preparation / warm-up before they even get to course and range. Couldn't find any real info by googling so though you might have some info / insight on this.

When I was younger playing hockey and soccer we had light jogs 30 min - 1 h before game to wake up our bodies and then static stretching (so long time ago that no one in Finland had heard about dynamic stretching) I was wondering are there amy similar types of routines in golf?

I read an article about some Finnish pro (should remember the name since there aren't too many) that when he was junior he had been stopped by police in Sweden at 4 am when coach had told guys to go running 3 hours before tee time and tee time was at 7 am I'm not looking anything this radical but so pointers on how to wake up your body before round.


I do not run or do anything to get my cardio up before a round.

Stretch wrists while driving to course. I work them until they feel pretty flexible. Stretch arms and shoulders and a bit of lower back. Simple stuff. Mostly warmup hitting balls. Short and easy swings to start and then lengthen things out as I work through the bag. If it is cold out, I'll do more stretching and hit balls until I am warm.

I've got to disagree with thew other poster regarding cardio.  I like doing some light cardio prior to playing, as I feel it is a pretty good initial warm up prior to stretching and hitting balls or whatever at the course prior to teeing off.  I wouldn't advocate a full work out or vigorous cardio prior to playing (same day), but light to moderate activity that raises your heart rate is in my mind the best thing you can do to ready your muscles and joints for your round.

    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
