Well, for some reason after my lay off of 7 years from playing golf, my irons were 15 yards short, and left. What I figured out was the fact that my right knee was slightly blowing out on my back swing. That left me with nothing but upper body to guide the ball which resulted in alot of pulled shots. It is funny how something so small can affect distance and direction. I have learned to put a little tention in my right knee  and point it slightly towards the inside of my right foot. This allows me to create a coil affect thus creating more distance and accuracy.  I played nine holes today and concetrated on my right knee. I am now swinging very smooth and hitting the driver longer than ever. I played to a 3 handicap when I laid off, and am now a 7 after 5 months of playing. Thought I would pass this along.

Easy now, guys.  Yes, he could probably use a few tips or pointers, but at least his post is coherent, unlike a lot of the other new people that have been starting threads the past few days.

Since I started S&T;, I've noticed I tend to slightly bow the right knee as well - didn't realize it could be a detriment ... thx for the tip - I'll work on fixing that

I guess what I am trying to say is that your weight should stay inside the right foot. If it ever gets outside that point on the back swing, it can get ugly very fast. Thought that might help others as well.

Yep.  I used to weight shift to the back leg.  It was causing me to reverse pivot, the same way I load up the rear leg to hit a baseball.  Then I made the mistake of locking up the right leg to force a shift back to the left.  Ideally, a slight bending of the rear leg is what I needed in order to allow my hips to have a good rotation and keep the weight pressed more to the left.  My rear leg straightens out on the back swing, but I no longer allow it to fully extend, which helps keep the weight down the line.  No more sore back either

I apologize, I meant no offense. I had a "high school" moment.  Your advice is sage.

Welcome to the forum... Great to hear you're playing again!  Keep us informed on your improvements... And I agree it is a solid tip.  I worked on the same thing the past several weeks and it has improved my ball striking.

    • I believe that losing a tour card is too extreme but definitely agree that more needs to be done to prevent slow play.
    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
