So what the heck is the deal on the Scotty putter head covers on ebay?

I wanted to get a new cover for my Scotty, so I was expeting maybe $15-20 for a new cover.

Good lord, the prices on there are insane. Most avg about $60 - $120.

I even saw this one for $500. Like what? Really? Are these collectors items or something?

The expensive ones are rare and usually collectors items, yes. The putter is expensive and the covers are ridiculously expensive, even the regular ones. I bought a non-standard $10 cover that actually looks pretty good. The stock cover is hideous. No doubt they sell them with an ugly grey one to make more money on people buying new covers.

Get a Scotty Headcover and Get a Putter Stolen.

You might want to get something a little more anonymous - lot's of options out there. Although, when I owned Scottys, I wanted a Hula Girl Cover... but at that time, even I would not go $80.

OMG!!! Best advice ever! Thanks. I just found the exact same one I found on ebay ($65) for $35 on his website. I just now ordered it.

Now this begs the question, if you car buy them for $35 direct from his webiste, then why are people paying these crazy prices on ebay. WOW.

Like someone else said, some people like to collect Cameron headcovers and some of the more rare ones fetch a pretty hefty sum.  Id also agree with not using a Cameron headcover.  Its pretty much liking inviting someone to steal your putter.

Huh? If someone's gonna steal something, don't you think they take my $400 driver instead? So I should replace my Titleist driver head cover with a plain one?

Or why not just walk off with my hole bag.

I don't know where you're from, but the golf courses I play in the Denver area, don't have any problem with people stealing stuff. Plus I always keep a close eye on my bag. If I go into the pro shop, I ask my buddy to watch them.

No because people know that they can get $300 or more for any Cameron putter.  If your driver is more than a year or 2 old, its worth next to nothing.

The standard Studio silver head cover runs about $25 dollars on ebay. If you are looking for an authentic scotty cameron aftermarket head cover you need to be prepared to pay for the branding.

You can get the more common ones fairly cheaply.  A few years ago when my bag was still all Titleist I bought a Circa 62 putter cover on Ebay and I think it cost me about $30.

Exactly.

I am in the process of de-identifying my clubs. One can try to keep a close look on their bag, but the reality is that you can't keep your eyes on it all the time. It's one reason I have a Sun Mountain Bag and not one with an OEM blaring's ID on it. I am also getting anonymous head covers. Until then, I use a large towel to drape over the head covers.

Theft is always a problem, especially if you play public or semi-private clubs on a consistent basis.

From what I understand, any theft is done quickly. They don't stand around to inspect your bag. They look for a head cover, pull the club, and go. If you scream "expensive", guess what happens?

      Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.

      Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group.       I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
