Hi Guys,

I had some great advice from this forum in the past when I was looking for a decent forgiving set of Irons. I purchased some callaway x-14's and love them. Im a 24 handicap golfer and this year im hoping to get down to around the 20 mark.

Im struggling at the moment with my driving. I only have 1 wood which is a very cheap Donnay driver which cost around £10 from sportsdirect. I know, its pants. So, looking to build on my clubs ive decided to try a decent ish set of woods.

Ive purchased a callaway steelhead iii 3 & 5 wood in mint condition for £50 for the two. They have been delivered today and are sitting in the box behind me. Im going to the range tonight as i cant wait to try them out.

Does anyone have any experiance of these woods?

I know they date from around 2003/4 i think. Im not after monster drives, id just like to be able to constantly hit the fairway off the tee box rather than ending up in the trees!

Thanks in advance!

That is a fine club. I had a buddy (who unfortunately passed away) who used to pound his steelhead III 3 wood. He could hit it off the tee almost as far as his Cleveland Hi-Bore driver and much more consistently. Callaway woods back then were easier to hit than many other brands, IMO.

My Tools of Ignorance:

Driver: Ping I20 9.5*
Woods/Hybrids: Cobra AMP 3W and 3 HY

Irons: Cobra AMP 4-GW

Wedges: Callaway Forged Copper 56* and 60*

Putters: Scotty Cameron  35" (Several of the flow neck blade variety)

Ball: Bridgestone B330-RX and Srixon Z-Star

Bag: Nike Performance Carry

Thanks, Im itching to get onto the range tonight to give them a blast. Hopefully i'll be able to take my Donnay driver out of my bag for good.

Good solid woods and I like the more 'normal' head size. Have not played mine in years, but do remember them fondly.

Looking for a forgiving driver?

Check out the Callaway FT-iZ driver.Got one a few days ago. Long and STRAIGHT.

Got mine on Ebay for $160 brand new with Diamana blue shaft.

Mine is the 'tour' version, which is open one degree, good for hookers like me.

The normal version would be better for slicers of the ball.

Callaway Preowned has them of course, but I found one I wanted on Ebay and the price was right.
