Hey SandTrappers,

I've been working this past year on multitudes of things in my swing in order to improve ballstriking. All the way from flying wedges to weight forward on the downswing and revamping my grip and backswing.

However, in all of my work of getting my body in the correct positions, I was still having some issues with consistent ballstriking. I couldn't really define what was missing, and being self-taught,  I didn't have a coach to help me with what I should be feeling or thinking during the swing.

This week, I have been very focused on the path of the clubhead in my swing, and my ballstriking instantly improved. My body knew what positions it needed to get into already, since I had already drilled that into my swing, but I had forgotten that none of that matters if you can't deliver the clubhead to the ball properly. I had gotten myself in a frenzy about great positions on the downswing, that I was blindly swinging into the ball without thinking of what and where my clubhead was. And my focus now with my clubhead feels - "Wide (backswing), narrow (downswing), wide (post-impact,followthrough)".

Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? Is the way I'm approaching the swing now correct? Anyone work so hard at getting their body into the right positions that they forgot about the clubhead? :). Just some musings from the past few days at the driving range. It's helped me piece together the things that I've worked so hard for the past year, and I'm swinging much better now.

I don't really think about the clubhead too much... as long as i setup with it slightly open and my grip is firm and it doesn't move around in my hands i'm set.  I just focus on tempo because i tend to get quick from the top and don't do the proper sequencing.  That is why i love the s & t system of swinging the club. Much better clubface control than i had before when i was caught up on the haney teachings and trying to rotate the face with #3 accumulator.

May i ask where in chicago you are located... im northside..

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
