We've all got our piece in the goal thread, and I thought it would be appropriate to have a thread to talk about the goals we've reached, the ones we're still working on, and how our plans for improvement are going.

Here were the goals I posted:
1. Play a round with no 3 putts. 2. Play 18 holes with the same ball. 3. Play a penalty stroke-free round. 4. Get my handicap in the teens.

On Friday I shot 89 and didn't lose a ball, though I did switch to a new one at the turn, so I've met that one. I've had several rounds this year with 1 3 putt green, but still need to eliminate that last one. The penalty stroke goal is going to take some doing... seems like I'm in at least one hazard or hit one OB at least once a round.

I've broken 90 three of my last 4 rounds (something I failed to do all of last year), and that has brought my index down from 25 to 21. I have no doubt I'll get it in the teens before the end of the year. So yeah, lots of work to do, but things are headed in the right direction. How are you doing so far?

I just posted my goals:

Play at least two rounds per week Practice at least twice a week Improve my driving Play bogey golf consistently

Well, I was able to get out for 18 for the first time this year last weekend. I have a tee off time for tomorrow afternoon but it is 100% chance of rain here

Thursday is looking better so if tomorrow is a rain out I will play Thursday. That would be my 2 rounds for the week. I practiced yesterday and I plan to practice again Friday and play Saturday and Monday if the weather allows... So far so good!

Learn how to use a wedge properly. Eliminate the gopher burner. Get a job. Finish regripping my clubs. Hit 300 yard drives. Shoot 80 or better by the end of year.

Learn how to use a wedge properly - This one has shaped up magnificently. I can do almost anything I want with my wedges (I now have three--a pitching wedge, sand, and lob wedge). The only thing I'm struggling with is the flop shot, and greenside bunker shots. I tend to flub the ball, catch too much sand, and leave it in the bunker. (I'm afraid of going off the other side of the green.) But, I can chip and pitch with - compared to before - with amazing accuracy and skill. Eliminate the gopher burner. - By and large done, but it was replaced with toppers, which are worse. Get a job. - Not a chance in hell. I desperately need one to afford my golf habits, though. Finish regripping my clubs. - Yeah, I got that done. Hit 300 yard drives. - I can occasionally drive the green on a 300 yard par 4, and I've hit balls into the woods behind the driving range, but I'm more likely to drive in the 250-275 range. I want 300. (But, I am improving...250-275 is a hell of a lot better than barely 200, which is what I was doing at the beginning of the year.) Shoot 80 or better by the end of the year. - I know I have the potential in my bag--I shot a 43 at the most difficult public course in Kentucky for 9 holes, but didn't have the time to play 18. I just have blowup holes and lost balls which really rack up a big score. I want to break 80 at least once this year, and consistently shoot 85 or better, or get a 12 handicap, whichever comes first.

    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.

    • I'm halfway thru 11.22.63 and I'm really loving it. It's only eight episodes. It came out in 2016, but has found new life since Netflix got it recently. I hesitate to say it's good, but I'm really enjoying it. I hope it ends well.   I'm nine episodes into Death Note, and that's been great too, also on Netflix. It's free on YouTube. I feel like that's been a legitimate good story so far. Not sure how long YouTube leaves it up, but here's the series (37 episodes of like 20 minutes each).
