Hello all

I am new to posting here but have been following this site for a long time.  I have been having a problem with the hooks lately along with a couple pushes thrown in there as well.  I have tried everything from weaking the grip to only seeing 1 knuckle on the left hand to moving the ball up in my stance(have moved it back to the left instep) and am currently holding the club open a little.  I am using a callaway x-460 (yeah i know old) with a fujikura 65 grain shaft with low torque high kick stiff flex.  Any  help you guys have at all in terms of posture, alignments, swing plane, or anything else you see.

In the FO view your right hand is a little too strong.

The V's from your thumbs as you see in the image should be pointing somewhere between your ear and shoulder.

If you haven't tried it already, tee the ball a little lower. When I started teeing the ball lower, my drives went straighter. I didn't lose too much distance either.


The 1st image is your setup. Notice the white lines on your head.

This is the top of your backswing and you are lifting your head up a little. Everything else looks good.

Next is the downswing, it gets worse, here you start to lift even more and fall back a little.

As a result you hit the ball off the toe of the club. The white line.

First work on your posture, trying to maintain your inclination to the ground. The more you try and take the club back the more likely you will lift your head.

One thing I notice is that you don't move your lower body much on the down swing.  Read the "biggest secret - slide your hips" thread.  In general if you don't get your weight through or get it through late that can definitely lead to the pull hook miss.

everything golf do you think my back swing is to much?  I feel like on the backswing me right shoulder is pushing my chin up thus moving the head.  I don't have any excuse for the downswing i guess i need to put more weight on the balls of the feet.

mdl   what do u think about everythings golf last picture what do you think about the hips there?  Do you think they aren't open enough???  Or not enough weight transfer???   Thanks guys i really appreciate it


You transfer your weight. Red line is address, white is impact. I had the same problem with my shoulder pushing into my chin and causing me to lift my head. One thing I did that helped was to tilt my head back alittle to alow my shoulder to rotate under my chin. When you get to the top of the backswing you start to lift your arms instead of rotating around your Inclination.

The head should lower a little on the backswing, some players do it more than others.

EverythingGolf:  I see those lines, and it's true he's not totally stationary, but does that not look like a swing with that's a little too rotationary in the upper body with less than desired weight shift?

    • Day 323 - Opposite of yesterday, focusing more on taking a full backswing than anything else.
    • Day 139: worked on putting for a while. Did the two cups drill for bead. 
    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno…. 
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
