I was watching some video of Hogan's swing last night.  People were highlighting how he intentionally laid the club off at the start of his downswing.  This was caused by his left wrist going from a cupped to a flat or bowed position right as he was starting down.  Many think this was his big secret as this move consistently squared the club face for him and shallowed out his swing.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?

If I understood it correctly, what Hogan did with his wrist was because he was trying to correct for a natural tendency to hook the ball.    If I understood that right, it would be a horrible move for someone who slices..

Not so sure.  A lot tour players these days have swings that drop in like that on the way down.

When I'm swinging well I love laying it off at the top. Along with a nice set, it helps to develop a lag and drop it right into the slot on the way down, and will always produce a nice little draw.

When I lack confidence and start rushing I can feel the club is open and across the line at the top, and the result is usually a push-fade or pull-hook.

The majority of the best golfers do this (increase leading wrist palmar flexion and trailing elbow more in during the transition). Hogan did it more than most. http://thesandtrap.com/t/54673/trailing-elbow-right-elbow-for-a-righty-from-p4-to-p5

IMHO the bow in the wrist from what I have seen in Hogan vids start just before impact. I don't think he bow the wrist to start the downswing. I conducted a test to show that you dont lay the club off by bowing the wrist, but you see i get right into Hogans position. Look closely at my left wrist, hope this helps

Here is the video of me doing this

He may not bow the wrist at the top, but he eliminates a lot of the cupping in the left wrist right as he's beginning the downswing.
