*oops, I just realized that I posted this in the wrong forum, maybe a mod can move it over to Golf Talk?

Just wanted to post this weekends experience, maybe it will help some others who are on the verge of improvement...

I started out my round ok with a nice medium distance drive fairly straight... I make a couple of bad swing and I open with a double bogey, could have been worse... Next hole it goes from bad to worse... 2 lost balls and I make a 10 on a par 4 and I am so mad because I just blew my round and it is only the second hole... After a minor tantrum I decided to forget it and play the next hole as if it never happened, I made a bogey... I still am struggling a bit but I settle down and run off a string of bogeys (with one triple in there for good measure ) The 9th hole on my course is the toughest and I made par.. things were really looking up...

I then par the 10th, make a double and then another par... I was feeling very good about being able to recover from bad holes... Then I end up making another 10 on the next hole!! 2 more lost balls and a shank... I am really frustrated now... But, I once again decide to forget it ever happened and I rattle off 3 straight pars!

Once I add up the score I am still looking at a 97 but one that could have easily been much better if it were not for 2 or 3 holes!

Anyway, I just wanted to post this to maybe help out others that get really frustrated with bad holes and let then ruin the entire round... I am finally able to really block out those bad holes and continue on and play some really good holes... Just keep a positive attitude and forget about the "blow up holes"...

Now I just have to eliminate those bad ones entirely and I am going to be very happy with my results...

Not that I have achieved much in the world of golf, but turning 7's and 8's into 5's or 6's has gone a long way to lowering my scores.......to steal your words...."slowly but surely." It is very satisfying when that 100 turns into a 95, and then 90 and then sub-90, etc by just making smart decisions.

When I hit a poor drive and find myself in a bit of trouble, I say to myself "how can I make bogey here" and usually at worse I end up with a double, sometimes I make a putt and escape with par. In the past, those were snowmen (or worse) every time.

Turning those crappy holes, into only semi-crappy holes helps drastically!!

Good luck and enjoy.
