If you are talking about me hold you breath. And by the way, I was being optimistic on the 20 handicap. I love your thought process but I know cash and technology don't buy skill.

Elmer - he might be talking about me.  I may need to take my index off.  I was a single digit handicapper (with old rusty Hogan Apex blades), had to walk away from it because of young kids, now they are into golf and I've started playing again last month.  I'm loving my iron play (with cavity backs now) and am easing back to blades by getting a combo set.  But I have lost all feel around the greens which is why my handicap is temporarily double digits.  That, and I live in west Texas and every time I play the wind is over 20 MPH.

I don't compete anymore, but play just for fun with my sons, and a lot of my golf time is spent at the range hitting balls.  So I really enjoy blades and the challenge they are to make my swing better.  I'm just saying all this because sometimes there are situations where blades aren't unreasonable for double digit handicappers.

DrCut - you should probably check Craigslist - I have been surprised by how many good sets of clubs are available locally.  Also, there are many clubs just like you described on ebay.  Good luck with your search.  I'm sorry about your friends clubs, but am glad you're looking out for him.

Hi Moonnerd,

Man I hail from Louisiana and worked quite a bit in Texas, it is a great state.  I'm now reside on the left coast but the golfing is great. I've got six children and three of them have interest in golf. My bad scores also are a result of a horrible chipping game, but I'm working hard and am too stubborn to quit.  I understand the concept of a weekend golfer needing every advantage, but the people that I see playing best have grooved their games, especially the short irons and the idea that cavity backs will offer enough difference for a bad swing, poor course management or a bad day seems silly. Most of our best golfers in town don't have great swings, but they are very consistent and have played forever. I have played Nike Ignites, a $5.00 set of garage sale North Western stainless blades, Callaway X20 Tours and a set of knock offs that were given to me and my iron consistency never changed from the norm of my play at the time. I came to the conclusion that I just as well play what I want to play because if there is a difference, I can't see it. With that said I'm not suggesting that blades are the holy grail, but I don't think they are the killer of aspiring young golf dreams nor do I think having them in my bag means a mid handicapper is arrogant or sacrificing score for a cool look. Maybe I will have to adjust my swing flaws to see an improvement without offset and a skid pan. Anyway I'll give you first dibs if I sell them in the next month or so.

I'm new to the forum and I don't want to tick anyone off or sound like an expert because my struggling golf game says it all. Besides if Mr. Wiggles is the person pictured getting into the passenger seat of the Jeep in his/her icon photo then I'm certain there's nothing wrong with that swing.

Keep on swinging and good luck with the kids and your own game.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
