Ball Flight Clarification with Golf Digest?

I thought I had a grasp on ball flight laws then I read the May issue of Golf Digest and I'm not so sure.  This is particularly important because I want to go to the driving range and work on my driver....which has become worse than usual the last couple of days.

May Golf Digest (page 149):

Slice - open face relative to swing path (?)

Hook - closed face relative to swing path (?)

Pull - square to the swing path moving left (I'm OK with this)

Push - square to the swing path moving right (I'm OK with this)

Problem: Slicing to the right....sometimes severe.  Slicing used to be a rare event and is now happening on every tee shot with the driver.  The ball starts left of the target line and makes a sweeping curve to the right.  I'd love a fade....but not when I have to play my approach from the far side of the adjacent fairway following a slice.

My Swing "Perception":

I will have to video this on the range but I feel like I'm swinging from the inside.  I do have problems getting my weight forward so I've been using a somewhat narrow stance that is slightly open to help with my turn on the follow through.  I've tried squaring my stance but the slice remains. My perception might not be reality, but if it is, it would suggest that the club face is closed on an in-to-out swing path causing the ball to go left initially and then sweep to the right.  Is my understanding correct which seem somewhat counter to Golf Digest?  If my description is accurate, what are some things I should try on the driving range?

I had one of my best rounds ever on Thursday followed by some of my worst (in recent memory) on Friday and today.  This game is crazy.

Closed face with an out-to-in path.  The closed face starts the ball left initially, and the action of cutting across the ball with an out-to-in swing path is putting that slice spin on the ball. (At least by my understanding of the ball flight laws).

So it seems I've developed a "pull slice."  This is new for me.  Back to the driving range with my video camera.

Given that it's hard to resolve swing-path issues during a round, could I (theoretically) correct for this by closing my stance to at least keep it in the fairway?  I've tried opening my stance and that either doesn't help (at best) or makes it worse.

(All for a righty)

A pull-slice:

  • Clubface pointing LEFT of the target.
  • Path going EVEN FARTHER LEFT of the target.

If the ball curves right for a righty, the clubface was always OPEN to the path.

For example, imagine that the clubface is pointing 3° left of the target with a path that's -10°. The clubface is left of the target (ball starts left), and the path is LEFT of that, so the ball slices.

There's absolutely no way you're swinging from the inside.

Thanks Iacas.  An understanding of what's wrong gives me something to work on at the range.
