Hello all,

First of all, golf is a whole lot harder than I imagined.  I am a 30+ handicap after 4 times of playing.  I am looking for some advice/suggestions in a set of irons.  I am currently swinging a set of Cleveland TA5's (graphite, stiff flex) these were given to me.  I have been told that I swing too "hard" for graphite....I don't know.  Just to make things easy, I am 33 years old.  I am not wanting to sink a bunch of money into a new set, however I wouldn't mind buying a 5-7 year old set either.  Also if one of you happens to mention Ping, I have no idea what the dot color is.  I looked it up and to my best recollection I would need purple.  My wrist bends at 32" and I am between 6'0 -6'1.  just throwing that out there for anyone who knows pings equipment and can tell me if i am reading the chart right.  Also, should i be swinging steel shafts?  Thanks, the newbie, Randy

Ping G-series, Calloway, Titleist AP1 would be high up on the list if I were you. If there is a place where you can demo them I'd suggest that. If you do go with Ping just have the place you're buying them from fit you to figure out what dot color you need.

Well, I am not sold on Ping, just stating the info for anyone that is.  I am considering the adams a3os or the 2006 Big Berthas....any suggestions anyone?

I'll watch this thread.  I'm using a borrowed set of clubs and want to get into a decent set without breaking the bank.  I'm looking at some of the complete sets that Adams Golf offers.  I'll be interested in your opinions.

Those should work fine.  You avoided the tendency to get "players irons" with the idea of growing into them.  In my opinion, this game is ridiculously hard so there's no sense in making it any harder than it needs to be when you're first starting out.

Best bang for you buck right now are BRAND NEW Taylor Made HT irons!  They are around 300 dollars brand new and are very nice clubs.  I have had some for over a year and swear by them.  You can even get the 4 iron up in the air which is tough!

    • 39, +4. A bit better hip slide stuff. More lateral, less turn with the hips.
    • Day 11: Worked on putting with the metronome
    • I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!
    • Sounds good. Text me if you have any questions. You have a good setup, too, and so long as you can get good camera angles… you should be good. https://skillest.com/@iacas
    • Day 14 (September 18).  Morning practice, despite questionable weather (it's raining).   Worked on chipping at first, including run-ups with UW and PW;  I've noticed lately some of my near-GIRs are missing forward, with nothing but grass ahead of me, but 20-30 yards to the pin.  After a few misadventures putting those lately, I wanted to at least get a feeling for what a 30-yard chip shot that doesn't have the variance of my quarter lob wedge would feel like.  I still think "putt when you can putt" is right, but... I am less sure I have a 30 yard putt in me.  Range time also, of course, same routine as the past week or so (drill, 3-4 slow shots, etc).   Did not get to the putting green as it was starting to come down a bit more. Darn, it really is raining.  And I thought today would be a perfect day to play, seeing as how it's 9-18 and all.
