So, I did something last week by pure chance on the range and its started working.  For a few years now, i've been coming up out of my stance and posture on my forward swing, nearly getting up on my toes.  Being tired of consistency issues, I took my normal stance but one time, at half swing, put my weight more on front of my heel (not on my heels, but where the arch of your foot and heel meet), and got that feeling down.  The last 10 balls I hit at the range were at full swing and I lost no distance, but gained immedate results (I hit 8 of out 10 drives near or at where I was aiming).

I did the same thing the next day by putting the weight back more than on the balls of my feet, and I had the same results.  Much more predictable aim and flight.

This past weekend, I put my theory to test playing 18 holes and here's what resulted

Fairways - 11/14

Right - 1/14

Left Fringe - 1/14

Hook - 1/14

Slice - 0/14

I've never hit that many fairways or felt that comfortable with the driver, 3 wood, or 5 wood in my life.  I also thought I was going to lose distance, but I was hitting all my drives a minimum of 275 yards to 300+ yards (longest measured out at 318...thank you downhill roll).

My question does this defy all golf teaching as everywhere i've read and videos ive seen, as well as lessons i've taken, have always taught putting more weight on the balls of your feet.  I havent had to change any mechanics in my swing, just my weight distribution in my feet which has now kept me down in my stance instead of jumping up.  Thoughts on this?

You were probably just way to much on your toes.  What may feel like being on your heels right now, could be proper.  I would imagine if you continued to fall back on your heels more and more, you'd see some issues.

Never thought of it as me being too much on my toes.  Thats actually a really good point.  Thanks as that simple statement really explains a great deal.  I just have to keep finding that right balance until it feels natural.  Its still a work in progress, but its a major step forward.  Thanks...

I find exaggerated feel is required to make swing changes.  Changes like that need to be carefully monitored so you can avoid over-correcting.
