Warning...I typically ramble when I post......

I don't know what it is but something has changed in my golf game.   I like to think I'm an average player who loves this game and just goes out to have fun, get out, etc....Ive never really taken the game seriously because for me it isn't a just sport its a hobby and simply something I enjoy with friends or alone.

Anyway two weeks ago, something changed.  My driver is straight and Ive picked up about 30 yards, I'm hitting my irons further, (almost 2 clubs different, 6 is now an 8)  My chipping is (if I may say so) fantastic.and my putting is well my putting is still fair at best but its easier because my chipping is so much better.

Don't get me wrong, this is golf, I still suck...I'm just sucking soooo much better and and if I can hit a consistent 80-83 like my last 90 holes...noooo problem I'll be happy

I'm sure a lot of it is muscle memory and just the fact that I'm playing more lately but Ive had years where I played league and weekends etc and still couldn't find this comfort zone.

I picked up a new driver at the beginning of the season, purchased three new wedges and re-gripped my clubs but that was all in March...I'm just seeing results in the last two weeks and I take very little stock in the whole "equipment changes everything"  idea.  I've hit long drives before, hit my irons good and chipped well in the past....these last two weeks its more of "everything coming together" thing....

Told you I ramble...

Edit:  As I re-read this post I realize there wasn't much of a question in it....I guess I just wanted to point out that sometimes a blind squirrel finds a  whole barrel of nuts.....

Happy for you.

But, expect that you give me a thumbs-up for reading all the way through your post.

Oh, and be prepared, it can go south for no reason...or so it seems. Brace yourself.

This is so true. I hit that point the OP is talking about 2 or so months back. I just seemed to instinctively know which irons to take for a shot and could just generally hit them further i.e. I could hit an 8 iron 170 yards or my PW 120 yards and it felt good and I was hitting consistently rounds of 80-85.

Recently though something is different. I'm just not catching the irons well at all and they are nowhere near as accurate. My driving has also gone to pot. There's something in my swing now that just doesn't feel right. Something, probably only very fractional, that is just out.

Funnily enough though my putting, which has long been a weakness of mine, has picked up and I'm 2 putting much more regularly. What a strange game it is!

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
