The first and most important thing is to remember to have a weight transfer on these short shots.

1st tip. A good way to practice forcing yourself to get through the ball is to practice these shots with standing your back foot on its toe. It forces you to move forward and transfer or you will lose your balance.

2nd tip. Do not take a full swing, from 120 yards in there is only one time I will take a full swing, if I need to hit the ball very high with a close pin behind a bunker. Spend time on the range and practice 1/2 shots and 3/4 shots and learn your yardage. Great way to remember is a half shot is to your belt with the hands, and a 3/4 shot is to middle of your abs.

3rd tip. The most important thing to practice is getting clean contact on your wedges and hitting the ground AFTER you hit your ball, you want to come down steep on your wedge swings and trap the ball to force spin. Practice lining 5 balls up on the range side by side on the grass range. Dont hit the last ball and use it to check your divots and make sure they are in front of the ball.

4th tip. Try low knock downs to control your spin, open up your stance, grip down, and make sure to extend your path towards your target.

Good luck I hope these help

so laying off a 9-iron or a pitching wedge from inside 100 yards is fine?

as long as you can control the distance and spin. I personally dont get below a 9I inside that, if its windy into my face I can hit a half nine that checks from about 115.

    • Day 308 - Worked on putting my grip/backswing work together with some better hip rotation in the downswing.
    • Day 124: went to the range at lunch. Worked on driver and getting feels for a shorter backswing. It feels like I’m taking a half swing, but it looks pretty decent on camera.
    • Day 49 - 2024-11-18 Light day of HackMotion work in the basement with my putting. Suffice to say my feels very closely align with what is measured.
    • Day 200 (18 Nov 24) - Broke out the MacGregor blades to do some “vintage” club pitches and chips.  Focus was on alignment and where I am looking in relation to the ball…have been working on finding a focal point about 3-6 inches ahead of the ball (toward the target) and not staring at the ball.  Getting very predictable strikes.  Overall it was a fun drill session and will serve as a warmup to tomorrow’s planned front 9 walk with these irons and persimmon woods and of course a “new” putter - a Acushnet Bullseye…
