I have a TaylorMade Superfast 2.0 driver I bought on Global Golf earlier this year. I'm not very consistent with it and so I'm looking to improve that with practice and making sure the club itself is best set up for me. Everyone tells me the stock shaft is terrible and it's too long by default. So I'm wondering if I can take my existing club somewhere to have it fitted for me. I assume they can cut my existing shaft down, or simply replace the shaft if what I have isn't right for me. I'm questioning where I should go to get a fitting. Unfortunately for me, I don't have many friends who are into golf and none that are into it enough to worry about fittings, so I don't have any sources for local recommendations. I thought about Golf Galaxy or Dick's, but I wonder if the big box store is the right place to go. Or, should I be looking for a local golf club? I'm also wondering about the fitting itself. I assume it's a beneficial thing to do, but I've never been fitted and don't really know what to expect out of the process.

Golf Galaxy or GolfSmith are good places to start. That's were I got fitted for my clubs. And yes it does make a difference to have them fitted. Found out I was using shafts that were the wrong flex, and using the wrong size grips. Switched to a driver that has the right shaft and grip, and now I hit it so much better. Had to order the woods, irons, and wedges since they didn't have what I needed in stock. Can't wait to get them and try them out.

Check for demo/fitting days from your favorite manufacturer(s). You're in a big city, so I'd be surprised if they didn't have a few, especially at this part of the year. Most companies will fit you for free at such a day.
