Shaft physics: How does a shaft lessen/increse spin?

Hello all,

I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the physics of how a shaft can change the amount of backspin.  While we are at it, also, given a clubhead, loft and lie, how can a shaft affect trajectory?  I know that these variables ARE affected, but I'm curious to know how.
