I work at a golf academy in Indiana with a golf course across the street. Today I got a call from a guy who said his daughter had the lie angle on this clubs adjusted by a place in Ft. Wayne and that he thought they had screwed them up. He wanted me to take a look. I said sure and he was at the academy in about an hour. At first I thought it was probably some guy who wasn't very good and was trying to blame the clubs for it.

When he walked in I had a feeling that this was someone who may not be blaming the clubs. The guy had a beautiful set of Mizuno MP-59s with C-Taper KBS shafts. Once I got to talking to him I realized that he was a serious player who knew what he was talking about. He said he wanted the shorter irons about 1/2 degree upright from what Mizuno sends them and in the longer irons a full degree upright. The only problem with the people who did his clubs before was instead of making the clubs upright they made them flat!!!!! And not only that instead of just making them a degree flat they were making them 3 degrees flat. He even called them and told them that by taking the lie angle from 61 to 59 they were flattening it but they assured him that was making the clubs upright. And not only did they make the clubs flat they also strengthened them. I asked him if that's what he wanted and he said no but they did it anyway.

I absolutely cannot believe this place honestly thought they were making this guys clubs upright. Of course this is assuming this guy was telling the truth but why wouldn't he tell the truth? I ended up having to bend his 4 iron about 4 degrees upright and weaken the thing from 22* to the stock 24*. The moral of this story is don't just trust anyone with your clubs!

That is tragic. I can't imagine how infuriated I would be.

If that guy's story is true.  Whoa!

I will say, I saw some people bring in some clubs that were butchered in failed home club tweaking experiments.  Claimed another shop screwed them up.

I thought this story was about you lending clubs to somebody to try out and they skipped town or something. Of course I would only trust a very reputable dealer but I have choices living in Orange county and a stones throw from LA.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
