Hi guys,

- I'm new in here and in golf

- I started swinging 2 weeks ago

- I bought my used clubs set for $75 (bag, gloves, balls, tees included) on used sports equipment store

- I learn how to swing from books/internet

- I video recorded my swing and it looks really horrible

Anyone here from Columbus, OH? Any idea for the best golf course for beginner?

I work in C'bus.  As for beginner golf courses, I would think Wilson Road might be a good place to start.  Good iron practice.

I also started a Central Ohio Golfers group on the Groups page, so feel free to join us!  I'd like to make this a more active group, and, hopefully, we can play some outings together at some point.

Hi, I'm a Columbus beginner too. I've not played a ton of courses around here, as oddly enough I keep driving down toward Cincinnati to play with some friends there. That said, Phoenix Golf Links in Grove City isn't bad for a beginner. The course isn't in spectacular shape, but it's got some good things for a new player: (1) it's not too expensive; (2)  people don't seem to mind slow play; (3) no thick trees in which to lose balls; (4) lots of balls to be found on the course in the weeds; (5) wide fairways with a few holes offering water and elevation changes.

Disclosure: I don't work for and have no association with Phoenix.

I hear some of the Columbus muni courses are really nice, too, and if you have any association with OSU, Gray is a spectacular course for beginners.

I've tried Wilson Road. Looks decent to me as beginner. They let me play alone and people were nice and considerate (knowing me struggle getting my 2-times-par objective).

Monn, I am always interested in finding people to play with. I am on the east side of Cbus in Reynoldsburg. Have a couple decent courses over hear that are fairly cheap. Blacklick, Walnut Hills, Airport are just a few to name. Keep checking the threads and I am sure we can all get together some time.

Hi Dennon,

Hopefully you would get this reply before Sunday.

I found good deal on ezlinks ( https://specials.ezlinks.com/Reservations/Specials.asp?selStartDate=09%2F23%2F2012&selState;=OH&submitbutton;=Find+EZLinks+Special+Rates ). It's Royal American Links on Sunday at 10.56 a.m for just $15 if you use DOGLEG as coupon (yes I'm a coupon guy). There's still one left and I wonder if you're interested in joining me.

Anyone has played on Royal American Links? Hopefully it's suitable for beginner.

I played Golf Club of Dublin last week. It's a nice course, pretty well maintained, but not worth the greens fees they want to charge. If you get the chance to play there for reduced prices, it's worth going.

    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.

    • Day 32 (12 Dec 25) - What was the Friday shootout became a practice round due to lack of enough players (temps kept a lot of the regulars home).  Used it to dial in some playing distances as I played back a set of tees to force alternate club selections.  Plenty of long approaches - every club was put into action thru the course is 18 holes. Was not a GiR day but rather nGIR (5 up and down pars).  Pin placement was tough - the smallest miss would see the ball roll just as far past or even off the green.  Was a great day of battling what the course was dealing. Overall - I finished 5 strokes over my average score of 86.
