I read a tip from someone on here about casting/lag/early releasing and they said to put the ball at your front foot for all of your clubs and this will show you how it feels to not release early. I've been doing that and making great contact and obviously the drawback is the ball goes a mile in the air. Do you think it is a bad idea if I just play rounds like this and every time I'm at the driving range to play like this just to build my muscle memory? Are there any other drawbacks I should consider?

It's a drill Brian Manzella advocates in "Confessions of a Former Flipper".  The idea is, in order to hit a ball that far forward, solid, you have to pivot and not flip the club.  I think it's a good drill.

I noticed that to, if I'm not starting from bottom up with the ball that forward I basically spin out and shank it left. I know I won't be compressing the ball as much as I should, but maybe I can finally get this swing ingrained in me and then start moving the ball back so I can start striking it a little more solid.

If you do the drill enough you can learn to compress the ball even if it is that far forward.

Sorry to dig this up from page 2, but have some info on this.

Yeh its a Manzella C.O.A.F.F drill, you can really learn to compress the ball in that position, and it's good for gaining confidence in ball striking.

But be very carefull with it, I overused it to the extent of becoming more of a TGM hitter (I'm actually a swinger), caused me some real heartache when I decided to learn to release the club properly as a swinger. So use it for what its meant for - No flip/flat left wrist at impact feeling reinforcement, take one of the pills not the whole bottle like I did.

Good luck.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
