I've been wondering about this for a few months so here goes.

My driver is a TM burner 9.5 regular flex

My 5 wood is a Callaway X (don't have a 3 wood yet)

My irons are Titleist DCI gold cavity backs

I have a 52/08 Vokey vedge and a Ping Cushin putter

I have collected this bag of clubs over the last few years, none of which were new when I bought them. The driver and irons were an e-bay purchase and the putter and 5 wood were bought used from a discount golf store and pro shop.

I find I have to do a little adjustment when I go from my driver to my 5 wood. Is this normal?

A part of me feels that I should try to get the same kind of driver, 3 and 5 wood, but I really don't know.

Lately my 5 wood feels very "foreign" in my hands when I swing. Granted I don't get a lot of time to practice hitting it or my driver. I am thing of purchasing some kind of swing training aids or a net of some king to hit into.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is nothing wrong with your bag. There are plenty of guys that have a fairway wood that is different from their driver. The 5 wood will feel different because it is different just like a hybrid or irons are different. It is a big gap, and if you get a 3 wood, I would get it similar to the 5 wood, not the driver. DCI, Vokey, Ping are all solid.

I have been looking for the Callaway X 3 wood. Found a few on e-bay for around $50.

I do like how the 5 wood feels when struck properly, very solid.

Any thoughts on a hitting net?

I only used a net once when I hung a painter's drop cloth in my sons lacrosse goal. It worked great. I prefer the driving range. If you need a drill, start by swinging the club at 50% power for 100 swings starting with a good address all the way to a balanced finish. Using a window or mirror makes it even better. Work the last 20 in at normal speed trying to feel the balance and control that you felt at half power. Good luck.

Nothing wrong with mixing brands or playing all the same brand...play what works for best for you. Lots of people play mixed bags, probably a lot more than play one brand. Personally I like having my bag match for the most part. Currently, my putter is the only club that isn't made by Adams.

As for nets, I've used them (and Shipping blankets as make shift ones), but prefer hitting at an actual range. That way I can see the flight of the ball, so I can correct as needed.

Ultimately, the brand and model of the clubs means very little. Which means that different brands in the same bag means even less. Choose the clubs that you like best. If it's all Titleist or a mix of everything doesn't matter a whole lot as long as the clubs work for you. I could probably find some Cobra clubs I could hit well, but I'd still not buy them. I could probably play good golf (my type of good) with any brand out there.

This is why I have yet to get a net...Seems to me one would really need to see the flight off the ball.

Not necessarily. If you got a video camera and know what to look for, you can work with a net. I spent an entire winter hitting balls on a net. Didn't see the ball flight for six months. When spring came, my slice had turned into a pull-draw. A small adjustment of the clubface and it became a push-draw. You can practice lots of things on a net without having to see the ball flight, but I would say it require a bit of knowledge, or having someone guiding you. I used Evolvr. Of course, if you can hit balls on a range and on a net interchangeably, you'll keep monitoring the ball flight. I use a video camera, sound and feelings when working on a swing without seeing the ball flight.

So I've got the Callaway X 5 wood. Last night I picked up a Callaway X 3 wood, same specs and shaft as my 5 wood with a head cover for $50.99 on e-bay. (that includes shipping)... I should have it by next weekend. I also got a tripod for my camera to take video of my swing which I will post in the "my swing" thread.
