Greetings All

I am happy to say that this season I have turned the corner after taking up the game again after a 7 year absence. By turning the corner - I mean that first corner - shooting under 50 pretty regularly.

One problem that is pretty consistent, however, is a pull of my 6,7, and 8 irons that comes up too often.
Weird thing is that I never pull my 9-LW which has me perplexed and along with being far from a swing doctor, reluctant to mess with my grip etc.
I use a "both thumbs pointing straight down the shaft" with an overlap grip which feels very good to me and very straightforward and simple to me.

To round things out - I never pull my driver - as a matter of fact - a slight push more often than not which clouds things even more.

I'm pretty tall and wonder if I reach too much on my irons which may cause the pull - or maybe should move the ball back in my stance ?

Any suggestions

You may have a slight outside to in swing path with your long irons, or just ligning up a little left with them, look at you divots after hitting. could also be closing the face just before impact.

Greetings All

You know I had this problem with my PW 9 and 8 irons. It's not your ball location on your shots, unless for some crazy reason you are moving it out farther. Anyway you are probably coming over the top a bit and rolling your wrist on those longer irons. If you are a right handed golfer you might be coming in on the ball right to left. That alone can get it on that path you described and then if you roll your wrist that can really get it to hook. I'd suggest working on your backswing and making sure it's solid then when coming through the check your divots. They will tell the story. If it is right to left even a tad that can throw things off.

Another major cause of pulling it left is you want to smash the ball since its a mid iron and you are unwilling to club up and hit it easy lol. What I mean by that is that you will rush your swing release your hands to earlier causing a pull to your left if you are a righty. The driver thing is that you are either not clearing your hips, which may be cause by an incomplete follow through, or a slightly weak grip.

    • Day 133: did a stack session.
    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
