I recently started using a new driver, it's 10.5 regular flex.  I have been hitting my drives too high and I feel like I'm not maximizing my distance.  I hit it about 250 but it just goes way to high in the air.  I've tried adjusting my swing a few ways but nothing seems to be working.  I've recently wondered if this could be an issue with the shaft flex or loft, I'm starting to think it's the flex.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Really the height of the golf ball has more to do with the golf shaft than the loft. I mean if you go from a 9.5 to a 12.5, that will effect it a little bit, but probably not enough to really concern you about distance. THe reall problem is backspin, a higher loft will increase backspin. Thats why i took my 9.5 adjustable down to a 8.75, it took alot of backspin off my driver for me.

Is your drives starting out low and ballooning high, or does it start of high and just seem to sail out there a ways and drop soft?

If its the first, then your probably hitting down on the ball to steeply, try to get a more positive angle of attack. If its the 2nd, then its the flex of the golf club. Go with maybe a stiff flex, i believe high kick point means lower ball flight.

Yeah I was kind of skeptical that it was the loft.  In terms of the ball flight, it seems to launch high and stay high.  It's not totally unreasonable because I can still get solid distance, I just think I am being limited in some way if it goes that high.

I think that the shaft that you use makes more difference than the club loft.  I've had trouble getting my drives high enough on damp fairways to give me good distance so I just bought an adjustable driver with a ProLaunch V2 HL (for High Launch) shaft.  My preferred shaft for dry fairways is a Grafalloy ProLaunch Red low launch shaft.  I don't hit it high but I really like the way that I hit it.  I hope that, since the loft of my driver is 10.5* as well that my ball flight using the V2HL shaft isn't too high.  I'll find out if and when the rain stops.
