Can someone recommend a good golf teacher from experience in the san jose/bay area? I recently returned to golf after many years. I can only go to the range so many days, watch so many you tube videos and read so many books/forums. I even started using ubersence but watching myself swing doesnt do much when I need a trained eye. Thanks.

Hey grounder, welcome to the forum.  What kind of budget do you have in mind?  If you're in San Jose, you could make the trip to San Francisco and get a lesson from Josh Zander.  I really respect his instruction methods, and like how he communicates.  I've never taken a lesson from him, but he is always highly ranked and has received a lot of accolades in instruction.

Thanks. Mr Zander is a lil pricey. I will have to check how he compares to others in the area but if he is as good as you say then he is probably worth every penny. Besides with just starting to play again I wouldn't want to waste his time with my horrible swing ha. Thanks to this forum I read about evolvr so I thinking about giving that a go. Maybe i can shape a somewhat decent swing together with them before i go embarrass myself with Mr Zander.

Hi grounder,

Josh Zander also teaches out of Stanford on certain days which should make the commute a little closer than San Francisco. Also on campus, I've taken PE classes with Jim Miller and Phil Marrone, both of whom are great but I can't vouch for how they are with lessons. Good luck!

Grounder, Evolvr is great.  If you're on a budget, I'd say it is a great deal - hard to beat $39 a month.  And the instructors are very knowledgeable - many of which use this site.  I myself am using Evolvr currently, and highly recommend it.

Maybe start a 'Myswing' thread here... Get some videos of your swing up, and use Evolvr.  Once you get some things clicking... Hands on instruction could really help.  Especially if you go to that particular instructor - and request that they help you with a particular feel or geometry.  Sometimes that 30 to 60 minute hands on instruction - focusing on a particular 'move' or 'feel' could be all that you need for it to click and ingrain into your swing.  So a combination of things could be the answer.

Finally, I'd also say that by simply using this site, the plethora of information that you can find here will greatly expand your knowledge of the golf swing.  Which if used correctly, will pay dividends in improving your golf game.
