Did Oakmont's being so hard overshadow the fact that the world's best players were playing in it because all i heard this week was about how hard Oakmont was but not about the players

Certainly the golf course was a hot topic, especially amongst the analysts, but I don't think it overshadowed the whole tournament. If anything it enhanced it. 17 greens in reg would be a huge accomplishment for Tiger at any tournament, but the fact that he did it at Oakmont with all this buzz about how hard it is made that a really special round to watch. While I personally thought the rough was a bit much, I really liked that the players had to focus on hitting the fairway. It is absolutely amazing how many of the guys just bomb it out 300-350 yards knowing that they can recover even though they are not in the fairway. This week showed how few of the games elite can actually hit fairways consistently. Like most, I don't want to see it every week, but forcing the guys to play position golf instead of just swinging away is something I'd like to see a lot more of.

Agreed. Off-center hits should not be rewarded. I like the idea of seven-inch rough for the touring pro who doesn't hit it straight. They're pros, they're supposed to be able to hit it straight.
