Having given up golf for 8 years back in 1994-02, I found getting back into the game was daunting to say the least.  I had been mostly a scratch player in 1994 but in the following 8 years, all the equipment had changed.  I was no longer looking down at a driver at address.  It was more like looking down at a kitchen toaster and I couldn't swing through the ball like I formerly did.

So, I struggled with that for a little over 10 years and last week decided to decrease the length of my driver down to 44 inches.  I took it out for the first time in Men's League this past Thursday and hit it really well!  It was much easier to hit through the ball and keep it in play.  Maybe the "visual" of the club head being closer to me and the ball being closer to me helped.  Choking up on the club is really not an option.  The swing weight went from a D3 to a C8 but the stiff shaft was not compromised and maybe compensated for the decreased length?

All I know is I feel confident with the driver again...but as well all know, that could change tomorrow.

I was out of golf from 2001-2011 and I hit my 460cc driver straighter and substantially farther than I hit my old driver, so I'm a fan of the improvement in technology.  I was 45 when I quit, 55 when I restarted, and hit it like I'm 25 again.  What a great thing that is!

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
