I had a thread on the Golf Talk page so I hate to repeat but it seemed more fitted to this page

2 questions:

1 - Played course where a par 5 was playing as a par 3 due to a flood. It had temporary tees about 120 out. There was no adjusted CR/Slope posted and after speaking with them they have none. How do I proceed? (option being considered to treat it like a hole that was skipped and take Net Par)

2. The option above leads to additional question. This course has 3 nines. Each has its holes handicapped 1-9. CR/Slope is listed for all 3 combinations but when played together, how do I know what holes are the 10-18 handicaps?

Thanks.

1) I would either score it as an unplayed hole as you describe, or play it out and score it as if it was a par 5. I.e., if you par it give yourself a 5, if you bogie give yourself a 6, etc.

Hi Jason,

For GHIN posting you need to give yourself par plus any strokes allowed based on your handicap for the tees you played and the handicap of the hole.

There are rating/slope adjustments available based on reduction of yardages for a particular tee, but those would not be the most accurate way to handle a score posting in your particular case.

With your second question, if the hole in question was on the second nine that you played, change the odd handicaps to even using the same order of difficulty.

Regards,

John

    • Things didn’t work out with the cutting horse barn my wife was working for there in Virginia. Their Texas facility we were supposed to move down to ended up delayed for at least an extra year after they’d had us leave Virginia to meet them down there “shortly”. So we ended up getting some land by her family in Missouri and building a house of our own down here instead. Not as many courses, but there is one 5 minutes from the house that’s only $62/mo for both of us to be members at and other nicer ones within a reasonable drive as well.    @Rick_D I’ll try to remember to let you know when I’m heading up that direction. It may happen more frequently in the coming year since a dealer for a business I started recently is based out of St Charles so making deliveries myself might be more economical than shipping.
    • I don’t know why my swing got so vertical there. That wasn’t normal.    What did you mean by point 3? I get the hip turn portion.
    • It is. So, just 2 and 3 above now. 😄
    • Hopefully this one is better
    • Patrick Cantlay's strokes gained from 2024: I wonder if he takes more time on approach shots given that was the worst part of his game last season. And then here are his 2023 stats: Much better ball striking season. I wonder if there are any differences in his times between these two seasons. I tend to think he's just slow in general, but it'd be interesting to see his time differences.
