I'll be there for work until about December and was wondering if anyone on here is from the area or has played there much.  Any places with nice practice areas?  Nice courses with reasonable rates?  I'll be staying in Kemah, close to League City and Clear Lake.  Thanks for replies!

Memorial Park GC is just west of downtown.  It's my hands-down favorite place to play when I go to Houston.  It's a city course, but always in good condition and has pretty good greens.  It's about $50, and tough to get a tee time, but if you walk on as a single it shouldn't be too tough to get on.

My favorite course in that general area is Southwyck in Pearland, not too far from Clear Lake.  A lot of it has a links-like feel.

When I play with my grandsons who live in League City, we go to Beacon Lakes in Dickinson; an average course, but not bad; Beacon Lakes is also unique for being a lighted 18 hole course so you can play after dark.

+1 on Southwyck. That's a really nice course. And there are several tees that stretch to over 7,000 yards if I recall. Also, Columbia Lakes in West Columbia is great. They have an amazing practice facility there as well. It's about 40 miles south of the Astrodome off 288 and 35.
